Smart Settle
Owerly cuts the number of transfers inside a group by collapsing chains of debt.
In a group, debts often run in circles: Anna owes Boris, Boris owes Vera. Smart Settle collapses those chains so one transfer replaces several.
- If one person owes two others and a third owes them, Owerly offers the short route.
- The totals do not change — only the number of transfers does.
- The detail is kept: the original records and shares stay where they are.
Turning it on
Open the group page and tap the settings icon — Manage.
Turn on the Smart Settle toggle.
Smart Settle is off by default. It is a group setting, not a personal one: it applies to everyone in the group.
When to leave it off
If the group cares about seeing exactly who paid for whom and repaying along those same pairs, leave it off — then every debt stays between the two people it concerns.
