What a friend is and how to add one

Friends in Owerly are Telegram users you share expenses with.

A friend is a Telegram user you have added to Owerly. You can add anyone you have a chat with in Telegram.

What it gives you:

  • shared records — split expenses and tracked debts;
  • repaying debts and netting off expenses that go both ways;
  • the friend shows up in the app even if they do not use Owerly yet.

A friend's name is shown the way they set it in their Telegram profile. It may differ from how you saved them in your contacts.

How to add

Open the chat with the bot. If you cannot see the button, send /start.

Press Add friends (or Add friends/groups).

Pick the users you need. Everyone you share a chat with in Telegram is available.

You can start the same flow from the app: the Friends tab → Add friends.

Removing a friend

There is no separate button for it. Your shared history is made of records and settlements that belong to both of you, so it is kept. If you need your data hidden or anonymised, write to support — see the Privacy Policy.
